A student had a genetic disorder which had depleted their zinc and vitamin B levels and resulted in copper toxicity. It was triggered by stress and the symptoms could worsen and become completely debilitating, both mentally and physically.
My most dear, most kind, precious, wish-fulfilling one,
I am sorry for the long delay in replying to your email. I checked and this is what came out:
With much love and prayers ...
A student who had lupus and severely degenerating muscles asked Rinpoche what could be done to help the condition. Rinpoche checked extensively and gave this advice.
Dear one,
You should dedicate your life to numberless hell beings, numberless hungry ghosts, numberless animals, numberless human beings, numberless suras, numberless asuras and numberless intermediate state beings. Dedicate your life to them. Give your life to free them from suffering and to achieve all the happiness up to enlightenment, by thinking:
By my experiencing this sickness, may all mother sentient beings be pacified from all sickness, spirit harm, negative karma and defilements immediately and may they achieve buddhahood, peerless happiness.
Recite this like a mantra, like OM MANI PADME HUM. Recite malas and malas of this, as much as possible every day, as many as possible. so do that.
Namgyalma short mantra: Recite one mala or half a mala or twenty-one mantras. This is for purification and also it can help with healing.
OM BHRUM SVAHA / OM AMRITA AYUR DADE SVAHA
Please let me know your address and I can send the different pills. Also please let me know of any that you can get yourself.
A student wrote about polycystic kidney disease. She had been told by doctors that she would have a reduced life expectancy. [Note: Rinpoche's advice about nyung näs was just for her personally. Rinpoche advised the student to drink water when doing nyung näs to avoid exacerbating the kidney disease.]
My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-fulfilling one,
Thank you for your kind email, I am sorry the other letter got lost and sorry it took time to reply.
In regard to nyung näs, it is very good that you are doing that. This advice is just for you; not public, but for you personally. You can do nyung näs, except just not the water part, so do everything else, but you can drink on the second day. This is private advice, for you.
It is very good if you read the Golden Light Sutra thirteen times. This is for your health, and it is a great thing to do also for world peace and for your own country, and by the way you are taken care of.
I am translating a new Medicine Buddha practice. It is not yet translated, but once it is, I will send it to you. Until it is ready, if you can, recite the Eight Medicine Buddha names and their mantras.
For you to do nyung näs, it is very good.
You should also recite one mala and fifteen extra mantras (123 mantras) of Vajra Armor mantra and then blow over a jar of water. Then each day drink the blessed water, all the time. Every day recite the mantra 123 times and blow over the water and totally believe the deity blesses the water and then with strong faith drink the water—in the early morning, one hour before lunch, after lunch, then at night time before bed, so each time drink a few spoonfuls.
The main lamrim for you to study is Essence of Refined Gold, this is a commentary to Lama Tsongkhapa’s short lamrim Hymns of Experience. If you can, read Essence of Refined Gold a few times and study it.
Every day read a lamrim prayer, Lama Tsongkhapa’s Foundation of All Good Qualities, by visualizing Lama Tsongkhapa, then recite the prayer. If you can, do Lama Tsongkhapa Guru Yoga and then within the guru yoga it contains that prayer, but if you can’t, then just visualize Lama Tsongkhapa.
This is my advice to you. Please make your life most meaningful with the thought of bodhicitta day and night and in every action you do.
With much love and prayers ...
Rinpoche advised these practices for a student who wrote about chronic health problems.
Next year comes out very bad for you. The following needs to be done:
A student with diabetes and thyroid malfunction was overweight and asked Rinpoche for advice, as doctors had recommended losing weight before undergoing surgery.
My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-fulfilling one,
I read your emails.
If you can, take the eight Mahayana precepts. It is very good using the opportunity for enlightenment, that is most unbelievable, most amazing. What keeps coming out is for you to take the eight Mahayana precepts again and again. You can have a break, then take them again, and also do nyung näs.
Prostrations you can do with your hands in the mudra of prostration. The main thing is to visualize as many bodies as you can doing the prostrations. However many bodies that you visualize, you will get the same amount of merit as actually doing that many prostrations, so visualize as many bodies as possible. Think the visualized bodies fill the whole earth. Then you will get the same benefits, unbelievable, unbelievable, unbelievable merits, as though you actually had that many bodies and did that many prostrations.
Still you should not think, “I am going to live for so many years.” That concept of permanence comes even on the same day when you are dying and even five minutes before a car accident. Death can happen at any time, as you have heard so many times, therefore you need to practice, so do nyung näs as much as possible. If you are not familiar with that practice, others can help you. You can join in a group and later you can do them by yourself.
Even if you die by doing nyung näs, you won’t be reborn in the lower realms. It is most worthwhile, it is the best death, if you do with bodhicitta, first of all for sentient beings, for every sentient being—numberless hell beings, numberless hungry ghosts, numberless animals, numberless human beings, numberless sura beings and numberless asura beings.
This is my advice. Please make your life most meaningful with the thought of bodhicitta day and night and in everything that you do.
Of course, I am also praying.
With much love and prayers ...
