Rinpoche recommended these practices for a student who had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-fulfilling one,
According to my observation you should take the moon crystal precious pill, Rinchen Tsotru Dhashel. Take it five times, with five days’ break between each pill. So take one, then nothing for five days, then take the next one. Because it’s wrapped you need to break it, then drink with hot water. Do this without the light, and it’s best to do it in the early morning.

You should recite Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s name and mantra, La ma tön pa chom dän de…. This purifies 80,000 billion eons each time we recite it. By reciting this mantra, we go only toward enlightenment, we become beneficial like Guru Shakyamuni Buddha himself, like Chenrezig, and it becomes easy to practice and realize tantra.

You should do one mala per day, and while reciting, look with your eyes open at a very nice picture, thangka or statue of Guru Shakyamuni Buddha. I am attaching a picture, so if you don’t have one you can print this out and look at it.

You should also practice Medicine Buddha, seeing [Medicine Buddha] as inseparable from the guru. If you have received initiation from His Holiness, practice seeing oneness [of guru and buddha], make strong requests and then purify. Nectar beams are sent to you with much love and compassion, loving kindness and compassion, like filling the whole sky. The nectar beams totally purify disease, spirit harm, negative karma and defilements. Those negative karmas and defilements collected from beginningless rebirths are totally purified, and especially all the disease, the prostate cancer, is totally purified. So do that strongly, with three malas of Medicine Buddha mantra per day.

If you can also do tonglen, that’s unbelievable. Do it sincerely from the heart—from the heart or from the feet.

With much love and prayers...
