Purification of Negative Karma

[Shakyamuni Buddha prayer]

Do not commit any unwholesome actions, And enjoy accumulating perfect virtue, Subduing one's own mind Is the teaching of the Buddha.

So again, look at the subject, action, object, friend, enemy, stranger, body, possessions, wealth, surrounding relatives, that all these things are causative phenomena, that they are changing within every second, these things getting older and older within every second and not only that, because of that then also that these things can be stopped any time, being under the control of other cause and conditions. So, there is no reason at all, there is no basis at all for anger, to rise anger, and the unhappy, dissatisfied mind, the desire and the ignorance, the concept of permanence. And on the top of this, all these things are completely empty from their own side. [very long pause]

There is no basis for anger, ignorance or the concept of true existence, no basis for desire, for what appears to have an existence from their own side is a hallucination. So with this same awareness meditate on the, one go over the words of the Essence of Wisdom.

At any rate I must achieve the state of omniscient mind for the sake of all the mother sentient beings who are equaling the infinite sky, who have been kind to oneself from the beginningless rebirth. Therefore I am going to listen to the teaching of the graduated path to enlightenment, Buddhadharma, the graduated path to enlightenment, so generate at least effortful bodhicitta, the motivation of listening to the teachings and also clarifying the righteous conduct of listening to the teachings according to the traditional practice of the lineage lamas. So, listening to the teaching, the teaching what is listened that is the graduated path to enlightenment, so the basic teaching that is the Jampel She Lung. [pause]

So then you see if the question rises, then you see so since this is the evolution, since the life is dependent on the karma, that these problems, all these sufferings you see they arisen from the non- virtuous karma, such as the ten non-virtues and so forth, so there has been so many non-virtuous actions have been accumulated both in this life and in the past lives. So, therefore what should be done? So there are explained that, there are about six different ways, types of purifying negative karma [pause]. So, you see by performing the holy objects, of the holy body, the statues, the holy speech, the scriptures, the holy mind, the stupas, like that, by performing you see before the object to do confession of negative karmas, then by having stable faith that they are actual Triple Gem you see and then having very intensive strong thought of regret you see to the past negative karmas that was done, like strong regret that one feel if poison you see if the poison has gone inside the body you see that which causes danger of death. So intensive strong thought of regret.

Now here in this case, you see if the person didn't recognize has taken poison inside and how that is dangerous for health, life, so if the person did not recognize that, first of all the person wouldn't try to take it out, to eliminate the poison you see won't try that, first. If the person didn't recognize that the poison has gone inside the body, the person wouldn't get thought to clean, to take out the poison from the body, the thought won't rise and won't do the treatment, won't take the treatment and then you see what happens then the person gets into the danger of life you see sicknesses and danger of death. Then, when that happens it is difficult, already late, when the danger of death happens it is already late you see to do something. So therefore it is wise, before experiencing a problem, the real problem you see then to recognize the poison and to take the treatment. So that way, since one has taken the poison already, so in that case more skillful to recognize and to take the treatment before the danger of death comes, the serious sicknesses, disease, or the danger of death. Without recognition of that, mistake what the person did you see having taken the poison and didn't recognize you know thinking that this makes only upset, knowing that one has taken poison you see it only makes upset, so it's wrong, so better to feel healthy and comfortable, you see better to just have the thought, There is nothing wrong with me. I am healthy. Better to have this thought, I am healthy and comfortable you see nothing wrong.

So that you see, as I mentioned yesterday the example of heresy, you remember just by labeling heresy that does not mean, that alone does not prove, does not make object of that faith doesn't exist. Just by labeling heresy that this faith, on a certain faith, by labeling heresy, by labeling alone cannot make the object of faith you know to not exist. So there, you label heresy and to be able to function as heresy, object of faith has to be non-existent.

So similar here, to label, I am comfortable, healthy, just putting that label alone is not sufficient, that doesn't become solution, I'm comfortable, healthy, nothing wrong with me, that thought alone doesn't become solution, does not take out the poison. Then in that case you see doesn't need hospital, there's no need of medicine, because, no need operation, there's no need doctors, no need nurse, no need medicine, no need hospitals, there's no need to keep medicines in the house, you know there's no need medicines, medicine fillng the shelves, or drawers or in the bathrooms you know there's no need because you just believe, I am okay you see every day one believe, I am healthy and comfortable, nothing wrong with me. So you see if the belief is enough, thinking that is enough then you see life become so much less expensive, also doesn't need insurance for that, the insurance you see if I get sick, the expenses you know to have expenses for treatment you see no need insurance also. No need invest money from the job. Each time one get salary you see doesn't need to invest you know from that money for the insurance. So, every day you see Nothing wrong with me and I'm healthy, comfortable you see by thinking that then you see every day the life would be healthy and comfortable, no disease.

Then also, same, by thinking that I won't die, concept you see I won't die, I will live long then one should be able, by thinking that I won't die, same thing, one can have the belief, one can generate the belief, I won't die, then that should help to not experience death. But in the world, most people that you see want to live long, almost everyone want to live long you see who doesn't want to die, doesn't want to experience death you see they want to live long but no choice. So therefore on this earth there is no one human being that we can point out or that we can go to visit who never died, since the earth, since the human beings started on this earth you see so far have been living, if there is a person like this would be incredibly famous you know unbelievably famous that somebody since the human beings started, never died you know if there's even one person, then I think everyone go to visit him or her. Anyway, However there hasn't been one, so like that.

So the point is this, generally speaking, regret is necessary but you see to live the life with regret alone is not enough; the purpose to feel regret is to do something, the purpose of having, to go to check in the hospital, to go to check with the doctor, hospital, is to recognize whether you have disease or not, whether you are healthy or not. So if one doesn't have disease, then one can enjoy the life being healthy. And if one does have disease, then one can take treatment you see before it becomes, the condition, before it becomes out of methods, out of hand, out of control, that doctors, nobody can do anything you see like death you see before coming to that point you see so that you can take treatment and get better. So by recognizing, by finding out that one has disease you know there's uncomfortable mind, so depending on, so generally speaking for the common people, there's uncomfortable mind, upsetness, but you see there's this but you see you take you see you take the treatment, because one doesn't want, one has found out that one has disease and one doesn't want to experience that you see.

then you see one doesn't want that, so one take the treatment to heal, to recover the disease.

So you see there's like this, here in the teachings of the Buddha, it is different. Here in the teaching of Buddha there's always a method you see because having created negative karma, yes, by recognizing that, by seeing the shortcomings, you should regret, you feel guilt or regret, but there's always a method what to do. In the Western culture, you should understand this difference, you see now, because there is no method what to do, so therefore you see what method is presented is you see generally, because there's no method you see so the method what is taught or what to think is you see I'm okay. you see nothing wrong with you. So, if you don't tell this, you haven't got other method you see so you got to tell this. So this you should understand. So you see you should analyze, okay, for a short time it is okay, by telling, You're okay, there is nothing wrong with you. That's okay for today, for some hours, today, it's okay, the person won't become crazy by that you know the person will feel happy, okay, he left, the person you say this, the person left, okay, happy you see but how long it can last? But if you really think you see can, those negative karmas what the person did, is there any, does that really purify, does that really make those things to not exist in the person's mental continuum? Now this we have to, this negative karma, we have got to do something, that is collected on the mental continuum, we have got to do something, we have got to clean that, we have got to purify that. So nothing is done and that get piled up and piled up you see like mountains you see then, because of that the problem will come out, the person will experience the life problem again and again, again and again, because the negative karma is there. So like that.

Then you see so therefore, you see as I mentioned yesterday as I went over the four results you see four suffering results, the person will do the action, mistake again and again you see again and again so you see in that way there's no end. Person's problem you see person seeking for treatment, seeking for method you see there's no end, so like that, so also the material expenses for the treatment you know all these things, also no end. As there's no end for the negative karma so no end for these things you see never enough, how much one spend, never enough, so the problem comes back you see problem get experienced again and again. So like that. [pause]

Generally speaking it is like this. [pause] So there happened story that during Guru Shakyamuni Buddha's time, I don't know what, one king's, Makyeda, King Makyeda killed you see the father Suchen Nyingpo, maybe that is the story, I think however after father died felt so much, so regret and then Buddha told you see him that father and mother are subject to be killed and you see so by hearing that then he felt happy but you see not actually, not literally believing that fathers and mothers are subject to be killed, but Buddha said this, by saying this, the person realized the two ignorances you see the ignorance apprehending the person as truly existent and ignorance apprehending the aggregates as truly existent, these two ignorances are to be eliminated, the person has realized father and mother are subjects to be killed, what understanding came, what meaning came in the mind of that person, you see understood you see the definitive meaning is hts these two ignorances are to be eliminated, so person realized this. So the person realized emptiness, and in that life person become arhat, achieved arhat stage. So you see so much regret, so you see by telling that, immediately there's some relaxation there and also it is understood to actualize the path, become means of actualizing the path, like that.
