Compassion and Happiness

…which means they are creating the cause now to receive harm back, to experience those similar sufferings, for such an incredible length of time, they are creating the cause by themselves, and they are not aware what they are doing is actually harming to themselves, not aware, doesn't understand this. However, so, all these things, any being which is suffering, each one becomes reason, it's like asking oneself to generate compassion, need help.

So, [pause] so as I often say, in the part of the compassion also, as I often say, so, in our daily life, the family, people in the family, people in the office, outside, inside, people who are around even while we are, even when we go for shopping, people in the shops, or while we are going in the road, in the street, people around us, so, depending on how they look at you, depending on how they think of you, if they are looking at you with compassion, even in the family, so all those people who are around you, including even the animals, if they are looking at you with compassion, with the positive thought, with affection, loving kindness, if they look at you with the good heart, when you feel that, this makes you happy, makes you enjoy, in the restaurant. And when the other person, so with that sincere mind, then showing, giving smile, respect with the body, respect with the speech, so depending how they think of you, depending how they behave towards you, you get, it makes you happy. So, one's own happiness dependent on the people who are around, animals, people who are around you, how they think of you, how they behave towards you. So, depending on that it affects us. Depending on that, we get happiness, depending on that we get depressed, angry, ups and downs, so depending on that, the surrounding living beings in our day-to-day life.

So now exactly the people, animals, the other living beings who are around oneself day-to-day life, family, people in the office, in the shops, in the restaurants, even while one is walking in the street, the people around, so, their happiness dependent on you, the people, animals, those living beings who are around oneself in the day-to-day life, their happiness dependent to you, their happiness has to come from you. It depends on how you, with what kind of attitude you look at them, how one behave with the body, speech, whether one respect, or disrespect, whether the person, whether one, for example, when we are going in the street, even that person is unknown person, but if you see that person, when we see that person walking in the street, so concentrated on the I, so concentrated on the self, so self- centered or so concentrated on the I, thinking of his or her own problems, nothing else, his or her happiness, nothing else, so whole concentrated on that and with that one-pointed concentration, thinking of only one's own problems.

Then, with that attitude, wanting, keeping life so busy, walking in the road, that, with tension in the heart, with uptightness, tension in the heart, tension in the body, tension in the face, tension between the eyebrows , tension on the forehead, tension between the two eyebrows, anyway, very tight, very tight body, walking. Then, so busy walking in the road.

However, it doesn't make happy, seeing that person doesn't make you happy. But when you see a person walking in the street that is very relaxed or having much space in the mind, very good hearted looking, very generous, very respectful, loving smile, however, when one see a person, somebody who is very kind, showing affection, even that person doesn't know you but showing affection or paying attention, affection. So however, it makes delightful or happy.

However, so like this, so same thing, depending on how we think and behave, so that makes even the people around happy or unhappy, even the animals, so [pause] birds or dogs, even the mouse, if they feel you, when they feel that you are a person who won't harm then they are relaxed, then you can catch them - I'm joking! That I'm joking! So, anyway, then it's easy to catch the mouse. Anyway, that I'm joking.

They're also very relaxed and they also feel the kindness, relaxed and happy, happy to see the person, happy to be with, they don't run away, happy to be with that person, when they see oneself like that, so even they act, the can feel the vibration, so at the beginning, at first, they hesitate whether to run away or not, they are not sure; then when they find out it's kind person then they become comfortable, relaxed, happy. Even they change their face. Even their face is full of hairs but still you can see the change, kind of happy face.

In Adelaide when I was doing this retreat, there was, I think there was a mouse there before we came, but usually most of the places, even there was no mouse before, then when I come then the mouse comes. There's some karma with ants and with mice or tiny insects in the food , in the vegetables, in the food . So, usually I have a lot of karma. So, the mouse, small mouse they come after ?11.30 something at night, they came, they usually come up in the room, next to me, where there's the bed, I think they try to make nest, the Buddha House students they made some bed, there's wood round, to lean, wood and then one that cushion up there, so middle of this, they went round. Maybe board, I'm not sure what is behind.

So anyway, these mice they used to come up and go under the bed and then go behind the pillow, this thing that is around there. So I think they might have made a hole, I think they might have made a nest there, because it's maybe warm or something. So, then one night, they tried to come on the table, of course, it's not because my mind is kind of good hearted or anything, but that time I was not intending to, generally not good hearted, cruel minded but that time I was not thinking to disturb the mouse.

So, the mouse came up, tried many times but then one time was able to come up and then he was looking at the face, was small mouse looking at the face like this , I think immediately find out I was not intending to harm, then he kept his face kind of very soft, or kind of happy face . Then, that was, it came just once, then he slowly went, but he came only once on that. Then, there's another altar in the next room, so there's one altar here in front but that one somehow unable to come up, but there's another altar in the next room, then the one mouse that is able to come up, drink the water, eat the things and so then, so came up quite a few times, so then I made one bowl, put a lot of nuts and the tsampa, the cooked flour and I think maybe from the torma or something, then a lot of nuts, in a big bowl and I put it there.

There's cupboard, ________ __________ goes up on top, so where the mouse always comes, so there, I put the bowl. At the top it's filled with flour, so I think, he used to come out on altar but then actually the food, couldn't eat much, and maybe ate a little bit then went away. So there was a lot but could not, somehow I don't know what happened, maybe I don't have enough merit or something.

So, then one day, also there are many tsa-tsas, these blocks, stupas or other big tsa-tsas, big print of different deities figures, so this must have went back, one whole bunch of tsa-tsas collapsed, fell down. So I think the mouse must have been caught in between the tsa-tsas as they all fell back, those big tsa- tsas, so took a little bit of time to come out . Then afterwards, when it came out, so it was trying to, it was very afraid, so afraid, quite a number of tsa-tsas fell down so I think must have hit. I think his face looked very poor, very sad, like somebody beat very much, how his face looked , so very sad face, very poor face. Then, I think that time I might have made one noise, just make one noise on the bed. So then he jumped from the altar down straight and then went away. So then, after that then he never came back, after that never came on the altar, since that time.

However, [pause] so the point is that, also by these reasons, the day-to-day life, the people, animals around us, outside, inside, their happiness depends on oneself, how one think, with what attitude, how one look at them, how one behave to them. So therefore by these reasons, also we are responsible other sentient beings' happiness in our everyday life, those who are around oneself.

Then, other thing is that, so far no problems happened to our life, that we are able to live long time, that other sentient beings having killed, didn't happen this. So, however, when you go out in the house, we just relax, we live being relaxed, trusting that these people around me won't give harm. By believing in that, then we live life comfortably, by trusting, by believing that these people around that they won't harm, by believing in that, then, that they won't have thought to kill, to harm, attitude and action, believing that they don't do, then one live comfortably, relaxed. So, by relying on them, by depending on them, we live the life comfortably, relaxed.

So, for example, many animals, birds in the forest, there's not even a minute you can see that when they go so scared, so unreliable, there life is, things become so unreliable, there's not even a minute to eat the food, even they find food but to eat the food in a comfortable, relaxed way, even within a minute, they have to look at, they have to listen sounds, they have to look at many directions, if the enemy is coming, all of them have enemies attacking them, eating, comes to eat them or attack them. So, when they are flying they have worry, fear, when they are on the ground, they have so much fear. Then there are human beings, then there are other animals, there are human beings, on top of that, this harm, so however, so, therefore, that we live our life mind relaxed, comfortable is because by believing that they won't give harm.

However, in the reality, [snaps fingers] it is a minute, the danger is a minute, it's just a question of changing the other person's mind, if the other person's mind become violent [snaps fingers], if he changes right now, your life is in danger. It's a question of changing the attitude, that's all. Once the attitude changes, then one's own life is in danger. So, now, so like this, how we are so much dependent on others.

So now, same thing, if our mind, if we don't develop compassion, practice compassion, then our mind can be very dangerous to other living beings. Because others, as I mentioned before, their life is dependent on oneself, their existing, their happiness, yeah.

Then, the other thing is, so therefore, how important it is, the mind healing, the need of that is so much, urgent, nothing more important than that, nothing more urgent than that in the life, and then main thing, that even [pause], even all sentient beings, starting from the family, all the people in the city, in the whole, all the living beings, even they are angry to you, even everyone is angry to you, harm, besides that, they don't love you, nobody loves you, no one loves you, and besides that, they are harming you, criticizing or they are harming with the body, however, but you, the I, is one person, nothing so much to be depressed, because just one living being, and even that is oneself. So, even one is born in hell, nothing that much to be depressed, and even, because just one living being. So even one achieve ultimate happiness, ultimate liberation, everlasting happiness, even one achieve this, but it's one, the I is just one, so nothing so much to be excited, nothing that much great incredible benefit or something, so so many beings, something great benefit or something. Even oneself achieve the ultimate, everlasting happiness, it's one, just one.

So now, but this one person, the I if it doesn't practice compassion, then there's danger to give harm to all the living beings, life to life, directly, indirectly, there's danger to give harm to all the living beings, from life to life. So even one life there's the possibility to give harm to millions and millions of people. So, you see, there's incredible danger, numberless beings they receive harm from you, oneself. So, again by this, so especially by this reason, to generate compassion become utmost important, in the life, all the things what we have to do in our life, this becomes the first thing, the very first thing to think about, to attempt, to practice, to think, to concern. Among all the things, and all, more reasons, because numberless sentient beings they don't want you to have anger towards to them, they want you to have compassion towards to them. They want you to benefit to them, they don't want you to have anger and to harm them. But even you want everyone to love you, to help you, but you are one person, it's just one, but the others, they want you to have compassion and they want you to benefit to them is numberless.

So therefore to develop the mind, to develop the positive mind, the compassion become utmost important and then this, just by reciting compassion, compassion, saying we need compassion, like I am speaking now, need compassion, need compassion, that alone is not enough, one has to develop compassion step by step, there's all preliminary meditations, how to start from the beginning to develop compassion, and to complete, there's whole steps of meditation, path, so one has to develop like this. Otherwise, maybe one day you feel compassion to that animal, you feel compassion to that animal for a few days and then it disappears, one feel compassion with the friend one or two days then it disappears, like that, even one feel a little bit, it's not stable.

So this one is most important one, to know how incredibly important it is the compassion. Then, by knowing, feeling this, how incredibly important, how precious it is, the compassion, this mind, how precious it is, because all your own happiness now and in the future, up to enlightenment, all the living beings' happiness, everyone's happiness is dependent to this, your compassion. So then, the problem is, then after that when you look at the problem, after discovering how compassion is so precious, yourself, to everybody, then, when you look at the problem, the problem helps to develop compassion, by having the sicknesses, then develop compassion all those who have the same problem and even those others, naturally one feels, by seeing our own problems, and then you can develop, so this by knowing our own problems we generate compassion for others. So then this compassion now, then we can develop, we can expand more and more, deeper and deeper, so that's how we can see the problems as beneficial. So this part is most important one. Others, even didn't happen much explanation, the other parts, most of the other parts, but this part is most important, so I try to explain a little bit more details this part.

I stop here.

[Dedications]

Due to the positive actions that we have done, past, present, which will be done in the future, may the altruism, bodhicitta, the thought of enlightenment, which is the source of all the happiness, may this be generated within one's own mind, in the minds of all sentient beings. And those who have, may it be developed.

And due to all these positive actions, may I achieve the highest peerless happiness, full enlightenment, and lead everyone to this state as quick as possible.

Thank you.
