Eight Mahayana Precepts Part B

Yeah, then please do three prostrations. Those who can kneel down, please kneel down; those who can't, then can relax, can sit up. Then put palms together at the heart.

So think, today, the meaning of my life is to free all sentient beings from all the sufferings and to bring them in full enlightenment, to cause perfect happiness towards all sentient beings and I have this responsibility, so today I am going to make my life to be most beneficial, most fruitful, most beneficial towards all sentient beings. Not only to cause happiness of this life, but more important, to cause happiness of future lives, the long-run happiness, then especially the ultimate happiness, liberation from samsara, and especially the full enlightenment, among those, then especially full enlightenment. So to cause all this happiness to all sentient beings. So… …sentient beings. So in the heart think taking Eight Mahayana Precepts today for the happiness of each living being, this is for them. For their happiness.

Yeah, then, please repeat. Visualize the lama from one's own side, Shakyamuni Buddha, and then think that you are following the prayer.

[ceremony]

"...in order to benefit..." - so here, temporary benefit, to cause, that I am taking these Eight Mahayana Precepts to give all the temporary benefit, all the happiness to the sentient beings, temporary happiness. Then next, "...in order to liberate them..." - ultimate happiness. Think that I am taking this ordination in order to cause ultimate happiness to all the living beings.

[ceremony]

"...in order to eliminate famine..." - so think of all those countries where so many thousands of people having so much problem with famine, drought, remember all those difficulties in the life. So I'm taking this vow, Eight Mahayana Precepts, to benefit to all those living beings, to free them from their suffering of famine.

"...in order to eliminate sicknesses..." - so think, all the sick people at home, all the sick people in hospitals, so many and those who are going to have operations, not sure whether they're going to survive or going to die, not sure, so there are so many pitiful sick people. Those who are having operation now, so think all those sick people and then think that I am taking Eight Mahayana Precepts for them, for all sentient beings to be free from sicknesses.

[ceremony]

So please repeat second time.

[ceremony]

So now without wandering mind, one must generate the thought that I have received the pure ordination, the Mahayana ordination purifying and reviving, in the presence of all the lineage lamas of this and starting from Guru Shakyamuni Buddha, then all the Buddhas and bodhisattvas, the lama that you have visualized Guru Shakyamuni Buddha.

So one must generate the thought I have received. If you don't generate the thought I have received then you don't receive. So it's defined by that.

So now next, now making the vow. By thinking that past Buddhas, the Tathagatas they practiced these vows and benefited towards sentient beings, enlightened them, so I am also going to do the same today, like this.

[ceremony]

"From now on I will not kill or..." so that "or" is mistaken, so probably from my mistakes in the past, so saying "and, or" many times, maybe that, unnecessary words, putting unnecessary words between.

[ceremony]

"...take another's property..." - does this "property" mean just house and land or any belongings, I'm not sure . Does this mean only one take, one confiscate the house and property, house and land, only restricted to that I'm not sure. Because means here I'm not going to take things that belong to others, things not owned by you, belong to others, possessions.

[ceremony]

"...speak false words..." - so means to not tell lie.

[ceremony]

"I will not use high or expensive beds..." - so again this is a mistake. This "or" by having or means you have a choice, in many of the precepts you have a choice. So take it what you like and don't take it what you don't like. So, I will not use high, expensive beds or thrones.

"...I will avoid eating food at the improper times...." - at the wrong times, so that means after twelve. So before that can be eaten any time, there's no fixed time made. So therefore, normally it's good that to start, to be able to finish at twelve then good to start earlier, that 11 o'clock or however that makes comfortable to finish at 12 o'clock. So here, so today is one meal so then, one meal is not mentioned there, so we have to think precisely, for the benefit of all sentient beings, not only taking vow to not eat at the wrong time, but so one meal. To practice the remedy towards the delusions, to pacify delusions.

So "high" normally means higher than this, this length.

[ceremony]

So, for Dharma purpose, for Dharma reasons, then there's exception like when you teach Dharma sitting on the throne in order to respect the Dharma, in order to respect the teachings. Then the chanting the prayers, for Dharma purpose, for practicing Dharma, to subdue the mind, then it's exception. So these things, while one is living in the vow, then doing for Dharma purpose, so that is special case, exception to pacify delusions, for the purpose of Dharma, which means to pacify delusions

[ceremony] [gap]

…so you are responding towards that. So here is the method, so you say yes.

Now reciting the mantra, the purifying the degenerated vows and the restoring.

[recitation of mantra]

So we do the rest of the part, extending the practice of offering, then we do the dedication. So all the light offerings here in the ceiling then here at the altar, all the nectar offerings, and then all the, whatever, and at your home, flowers and so forth, whatever offerings there are, then offer all these towards all the holy objects that which are in India, including Bodhgaya, where one thousand Buddhas descend then they show the holy deed of enlightenment, becoming enlightened, so one make all these offerings towards all those holy objects there in India, by visualizing embodiment of the root virtuous friend from one's own side. Generated great bliss in all their holy minds.

Now, one make all these offerings what are here, what are at your home towards all the holy objects in Tibet, including Shakyamuni Buddha statue blessed by Buddha himself, that which is in Lhasa temple. By visualizing root virtuous friend, then generated great bliss in all their holy minds.

Now we make all these offerings towards all the holy objects that are in Nepal, including those precious, the famous precious stupas, Swayambunath and Baudhanath stupas, so forth. Then, if there are any virtuous friends in those countries, also at the same time also can make offering to them.

Now we make offering to all the other holy objects that which are in Buddhist countries, Sri Lanka, Burma, then all those in mainland China, Taiwan and so forth, and all the rest of the world. By visualizing root virtuous friend from one's own side, and then _______ that generated great bliss.

Now we offer all the ten direction Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, by visualizing embodiment of the root virtuous friend from one's own side and generated great bliss in all their holy minds. And you can make the offering not just once, you can make the offering all the ten direction Buddha, Dharma, Sangha again and again.

Now we make all these offerings towards all the ten direction statues, stupas, scriptures of Buddha, by visualizing embodiment of the root virtuous friend from one's own side and then generated great bliss, so as I mentioned before, also put palms together at the same time, prostrating to them.

So now we give, now dedication, give all the merits, give all our past, present, future merits and all the result happiness up to enlightenment, all the realizations we give to all sentient beings, to every hell being, to every hungry ghost, to every animal, to every human being, every asura being…

…By this we have collected numberless merit again, due to this, whatever sufferings the sentient beings have may it be ripened; whatever happiness, merit, I have, may it be ripened towards all sentient beings. Dedicate this way.

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by oneself, Buddhas, bodhisattvas, sentient beings, may all the father and mother sentient beings have happiness, may the three lower realms be empty forever, may all the bodhisattvas prayers to be succeeded immediately, may I be able to cause all this by myself alone.

And due to all the three time merits collected by oneself, Buddhas, bodhisattvas, sentient beings, may myself, family, all sentient beings, able to complete the paramita of morality by keeping without pride, without mistakes and keeping it pure.

I will dedicate all the merits in the best way to quickly enlighten all sentient beings as Buddhas, bodhisattvas have dedicated their merits and Samantabhadra and Manjugosha realizes.

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by oneself, by Buddhas, bodhisattvas, sentient beings, that which while it is existing that which is empty, may the I while it is existing that which is empty achieve Guru Shakyamuni Buddha's enlightenment while it is existing that which is empty, lead all sentient beings while they are existing, that who are empty to that enlightenment while it is existing that which is empty [pause] as quickly as possible by myself alone, who is also, while it is existing that which is empty.

Due to all the three time merits collected by oneself, by Buddhas, bodhisattvas, sentient beings, may Lama Tsongkhapa's complete teaching, unified of sutra and tantra, stainless one, to be actualized completely within one's own mind, one's own family members and in the minds of all the students and one spread in the minds of all the sentient beings, lead them to enlightenment as quickly as possible.

So now, three prostrations with the same visualization.
