A student asked Rinpoche whether he should take care of his mother, who was sick. Rinpoche advised he would collect unbelievable merit by offering service to his mother.

My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-fulfilling one,

Thank you for your email. I checked your question and it came out most beneficial for you to go and help your mother. You collect unbelievable, unbelievable merits by serving your mother, who is such a powerful object to collect merits.

When His Holiness Zong Rinpoche was in the monastery in Lhasa, his parents came from Kham [to visit him.] Rinpoche so much wanted to do cleaning and all the things, because he understood the kindness of the mother and father.

At that time Rinpoche was outstanding, extremely learned. I am not sure if he was abbot or not at that time. He did many other services for his mother, but maybe the cleaning part, cleaning the room, he wanted to do that very much, but it didn't fit [with his position at the monastery]. So other people did the cleaning, though Rinpoche himself wanted to do everything.

Buddha explained in the Kangyur the unbelievable merits. I haven't read it completely, but the kindness of the mother is in the Kangyur.

Try this for some time, and then check how it goes.

With much love and prayers ...
