Khunu Lama Rinpoche
Khunu Lama Rinpoche, Tenzin Gyaltsen (1894-1977) was born in the Kinnaur region of Himachal Pradesh, northern India, which shares a border with Tibet. The people there revered him and called him “Khunu” Rinpoche (meaning “precious one from Kinnaur”).
He was respected by Tibetan Buddhists of all traditions because his life embodied the spiritual practice of compassion and he travelled widely, teaching throughout Tibet and India. His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama was among his many students. Khunu Lama Rinpoche's most famous written work was Vast as the Heavens, Deep as the Sea: Verses in Praise of Bodhicitta (Wisdom Publications, 1999).
