Thanks for Fundraising for FPMT Projects

Rinpoche sent this message to thank a student who had been raising funds for many of the FPMT’s social service projects for many years.

My most kind, most dear, most precious, wish-fulfilling gem one,

For so many years [you are] like a gem. Thanks for your kindness to FPMT, Lama Yeshe and me, helping the different projects. Thank you very, very much.

As you know, the Drop of Mahamudra said:

Just as fire burns wood and in one second it becomes ashes,
By pleasing the guru, then our negative karma is purified in a second.
And many eons of heavy negative karma are ceased.

By pleasing the guru, the glorified guru, the heaviest negative karma is purified and in one second it becomes ashes. Those negative karmas collected on the path get purified and unbelievable, unbelievable extensive merit is collected.

It is mentioned by Sakya Pandita:

Even though the beams of the sun are extremely hot, without a magnifying glass they cannot ignite a fire. Like that, without the guru we cannot receive the blessings of the buddhas in the heart.

By pleasing the guru we please all the buddhas, the Buddha Dharma and Sangha. These three are all embodied into one, the guru. To the guru I go for refuge.

So please think that is what happens.

Thank you very, very, very much. Thank you so much, thank you!

With much love and prayers ...

The Whole World Comes from the Mind

Rinpoche wrote this card for a neighbor who had been sending tiny vases of beautiful flowers to Rinpoche when he was doing retreat.

My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-granting one,
I wanted to come up and visit you, but somehow it didn’t happen.  Anyway, what I wanted to express is to thank you very, very, very, very much for your wonderful flowers, for the flowerpot you made yourself and for the small flowers from your garden. They are very expressive—so tiny, but so amazing, so beautiful, there is so much to learn from them. They are very detailed, and even though they are very small, the shapes and details and colors are amazing. From that, by seeing these creations, we can learn about our mind, because this also came from the mind.

The whole world came from the mind—whatever part of the world we see came from our mind. Our vision of hell came from our mind; our enlightenment came from our mind; our samsara, nirvana, what we experience, came from our mind; our everyday happiness and pleasure came from our mind; as well as virtue and nonvirtue; all this came from our mind. Therefore our mind has complete freedom to not be born in hell and to achieve the highest happiness, buddhahood; to not be born samsara and to achieve nirvana and every day to achieve happiness and to not experience suffering and unhappiness.

This is the Buddha’s view, the Buddha’s teachings, so you can see from this that you have so much freedom in your mind, in your hands, regarding your life. It’s not up to somebody else. It’s not up to God. Yes, there are many people in the world who believe God created life and their life is up to God, but that would mean it is uncertain.

I hope to see you next time. Please give my best wishes to your husband and thank him. Take care with bodhicitta, the ultimate good heart.

With much love and prayers ...

Rinpoche sent this card to a benefactor who had been supporting FPMT social service projects in India, Nepal and Mongolia for many years.

My most dear, most kind, precious, wish-fulfilling one,

How are you? I hope you are in the best health.

Here I’m thanking you on behalf of all the numberless buddhas and bodhisattvas and sentient beings, and, of course, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and Lama Yeshe, who took care of me and is now reincarnated in Spain as Lama Ösel.

Skies of thanks to you for helping with many of the important projects in FPMT, things that are in great need. You have been so kind, like a father and mother, so please continue your compassion, your loving kindness, for us.

With much love and prayers ...

Lama Zopa Rinpoche wrote this letter to Ven. Thamthog Rinpoche, the abbot of Namgyal Monastery, Dharamsala, and spiritual director of Ghe Pel Ling Institute, Milan, Italy. Ven. Thamthog Rinpoche and Ven. Tenzin Khenrab Rinpoche had organized the 2016 Milan visit and teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Dear Kyabje Thamthog Rinpoche, abbot of Namgyal Monastery, enriched of the Buddhadharma, depthless and endless, and beautified in living in the three higher trainings and young Thamthog Rinpoche, Ven. Tenzin Khenrab Rinpoche, enriched of the Buddhadharma, depthless and endless, and beautified in living in the three higher trainings,

Thank you very, very much for inviting me to be at Chenrezig His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s teachings in Milano. That is like bringing me from darkness into light, so I highly appreciate this, and it is extremely kind.

Unfortunately at this time, before going to Nepal for the one-month lamrim course in November, I am taking time to do some retreat, also which His Holiness advised. This time was already planned for retreat, so I am very sorry to say I will not be able to attend.

Then this is just a personal thing to express, dear Kyabje Thamthog Rinpoche, so much of your past extensive merits to be able to serve His Holiness, being very close to His Holiness, not just showing abbot but totally dedicated to His Holiness, like His Holiness’s own feet and fingers, like that totally dedicated. This is really so, so, so, so good, I don’t see like that others able to run for His Holiness and again I want to say thank you so much.

Also numberless thanks to Ven. Tenzin Khenrab Rinpoche for so much kindness helping sentient beings, bringing [them] to enlightenment and so dedicated.

Zopa

Beggar of secular and future perfect human lives.

Numberless Skies of Thanks for the Thangka

Rinpoche sent this letter to thank an artist who had painted a beautiful Tara thangka.

My dear one,
Billions and trillions of numberless thanks! Numberless skies of thanks! Greetings and tashi delek.

What a thangka you have made! Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.

In this world, in whichever universe you will be born, even in Tara’s pure land, the thangka will still be in this world. It came from your devotion, and also from your compassion for sentient beings. It also came from your wisdom.

I want these paintings to be as best as possible, and they are already incredible.

Here are a few comments. The lotus and also the shading can be in different colors; not everything has to be red and white. You can have shading, but just different. Also, have shading on the face and have a little bit of a smile.

With big love and prayer ...
