Prajnaparamita for Health and Life Obstacles

Rinpoche gave this advice to a student who wrote to ask about life obstacles.

The Prajnaparamita needs to be recited five times for you. This comes out as very, very beneficial for you; for your health and your life this comes out best.

This should be done by the Kopan nuns. Explain the dedication, for your long life and for the removal of health obstacles. You can discuss with them the offerings and so forth.

A student wrote that some other lamas had said there were life obstacles. The student asked Rinpoche for practice advice.

My dear one,
Your life seems good in my observation. Maybe you did some things, such as circumambulation and prostrations, which could have purified the obstacles. That is possible. So, at the moment it came out good—not best, but good.

If you can, read the Amitayus Long Life Sutra two hundred times.

Also, if you can, do White Tara long life practice in the mornings. You can just recite one mala of the mantra. Use the short White Tara sadhana by Pabongka Rinpoche.

Prajnaparamita Recitation

A student with life obstacles wrote to Rinpoche, who advised recitation of the Prajnaparamita to remove the obstacles.

My dear one,
The life obstacles that you have require some purification. The Prajnaparamita, the Perfection of Wisdom Sutras of the Buddha, must be recited to remove these obstacles. 

The Prajnaparamita needs to be recited five times in total: three times by the Kopan nuns and twice by the Tsum nuns.

The Prajnaparamita is the very heart to all the Buddha’s teachings on wisdom and is the direct antidote to our ignorance.

Rinpoche advised these practices for a student who had life obstacles.

  • Take Amitayus long life initiation before end of the year.
  • De bung go mang: to be read twice by the Kopan monks.
  • Have a Controlling Fire puja done this year.

 

Practices for a Student with Life Obstacles

A student had life obstacles. Rinpoche checked and advised these practices.

  • Tse Do, Long Life Sutra: Print the sutra ninety times. Also, read the sutra 300 times; the nuns at Kopan can do this.
  • Gyab shi puja: to be done three times by Thutop Rinpoche’s monastery.
  • Ma mo trü kang: Lama Zopa Rinpoche will do this.
  • Liberate 300 animals.
  • Practice White Tara meditation every day.

Long-life Practices for Life Obstacles

Advice given to a student who had life obstacles in that year.

  • You need to do long-life meditation on White Heruka. If you don’t have the initiation then you can do White Tara sadhana.
  • Print the Amitayus Long Life Sutra 500 times.
  • Liberate 12,000 animals. Do it the FPMT way, as they do in Singapore, by circumambulating stupas and holy objects, putting blessed water on the animals and reciting mantras. It’s probably easier to do this in Singapore or you can do some in Bali.
  • Have a long-life deity thangka painted on the Tibetan eighth. This means the thangka is drawn and completed, and also blessed or consecrated on the same day. All three need to be done on the same day, the Tibetan eighth. Even if all the details are not finished, the general picture must be completed.
