[Rinpoche chants dedication]

Due to all the three time merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, may the bodhicitta be actualized within one’s own heart, in the hearts of one’s own family members, in the hearts of all the students and all the supporters in this organization, as well as all those who give up their lives to the organization, doing service to sentient beings, teachings of Buddha, in all their hearts, as well as in the hearts of all the sentient beings, without delay even a second.

Jang chub…

Due to all the three time merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, may the bodhicitta be generated in the hearts of, especially in the hearts of all the leaders of the world.

Jang chub…

May the bodhicitta be generated in the hearts of, especially in the hearts of those who are called "terrorists," or all those who are harmful towards, who harm to others, so without delay even a second, may the bodhicitta take place in their heart.

Jang chub…

That we have incredible, unbelievable opportunity, every single Dharma understanding that we have so far, and virtue we collect, cause of happiness, cause of happiness future lives, liberation from samsara, enlightenment, how many you collected up to now, that much benefit to offer sentient beings, help others, opportunity, all this came from kindness of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, that we have met Buddhadharma this time, by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. So to have a stable life, all the holy wishes be succeed immediately.

[Long-life prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama]

Then Geshe _ [?] Rinpoche, then to have very long life and to continues to turn Dharma to us sentient beings, then continues to enjoy Dharma without satisfaction , so to be able to enjoy, our karma, seeing the imperfect [?] came from all those obstacles, so purified, say, immediately, same all the gurus _ [Rinpoche unclear].

Then Lama Yeshe, who is kinder than all the three time buddhas, whose holy name is difficult to mention. Then all his holy wishes to be actualized, all the holy wishes whatever Lama had, to be actualized exactly, and then Lama Osel Rinpoche to benefit in this world, all sentient beings, like Lama Tsongkhapa.

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, may I be able to offer limitless skies of benefit to sentient beings, and teachings of the Buddha, offer limitless skies of benefit to sentient beings and teachings of the Buddha from now on, by having the same quality within me as Lama Tsongkhapa has. [Pause]

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, may I be able to, may I and all sentient beings able to meet only perfectly qualified guru in all the lifetimes, and to do only, to be able to see only enlightened being from each sentient being’s side, from one’s own side in all the lifetimes, and to do only action most pleasing holy mind of the Virtuous Friend, from each sentient being’s side, from one’s own side in all the lifetimes, and to fulfill the holy wishes immediately from each sentient being’s side, from one’s own side in all the lifetimes.

Due to the three time merits collected by me, three time merits collected by all the sentient beings and buddhas, may the 500-feet Maitreya Buddha statue be constructed as quick as possible, be complete as quick as possible, and to be most beneficial to all sentient beings, to bring them to enlightenment as quick as possible and cause to actualize bodhicitta in everyone’s heart, and purify all the defilements and cause them to collect extensive merits, especially this world, sentient beings in this world, as well as to succeed all the rest of the projects, serving Sanghas in those great monasteries, as well as Sangha in this organization, the various holy objects in different parts of the world, Tibet and different parts of the world, and then social services in different parts of the world.

Then may every center, including Vajrapani and all the FPMT centers, be most beneficial for sentient beings, cause to collect, cause sentient beings to generate faith in Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, Three Jewels, and to have faith in karma, and cause to actualize loving-kindness, compassion, bodhicitta in everyone’s heart. Particular, then to spread Lama Tsongkhapa’s pure teaching, the complete path to enlightenment, in their hearts, and bring them to enlightenment as quick as possible.

And whatever projects each center has, here Vajrapani, everything to be succeed immediately, so with all the rest, starting from Maitreya Project, so all the fundings, all the needs be received without even a second’s delay, so to be able to illuminate this world, alleviate the sentient beings in this world.

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, that which exists, but is empty, may the I who exists, but who is empty, achieve Lama Tsongkhapa’s enlightenment, which exists but which is empty, lead all the sentient beings, who exist but who are empty, to that Lama Tsongkhapa’s enlightenment which exists but which is empty, by myself alone, who exists but who is empty.

We just quickly read the, supposed to be subject of Three Principal Paths, but say, but then the other obstacles happened. So I just do the lung of the Three Principal Paths. If there’s somebody who is new to hear lam-rim. English? [Rinpoche looks for the text]

So composed by Lama Tsongkhapa, say, Sang…tak.pa _ [Tibetan] Lama Tsongkhapa’s disciple. So there’s a monastery in Tibet, by this lama, whom Lama Tsongkhapa gave this teaching, must be Kham, somewhere, I don’t know. But very, very strict monastery.

They allow women to come in the monastery only once in a year. In this monastery, this Lama _ [Tibetan name] so Lama Tsongkhapa’s disciple. So in one year, this one day, allowed women to come in the monastery to visit, only one time in a year, extremely strict. So that’s Lama Sang tak.pa _ [Tibetan], Lama Tsongkhapa wrote this particular teaching.

I’m just going to give the lung, okay. Not lhung, lung.

1. I bow down to the perfect gurus, I will explain as well as I can the essential meaning of all the Conqueror’s scriptures, the path praised by the excellent Conqueror’s children, the port for the fortunate wishing liberation.

So paying homage, I think, in the West probably, maybe there’s no such system because, of course, there’s Dharma text, so there’s paying homage at the beginning. So that also helps to, one reason, one is creates merit and success, no obstacles to success to complete the text, no obstacles. Next one is promising to write down. Then, next one is persuading to listen the holy Dharma.

2. Whoever is not attached to the pleasure of transcendent existence, anyway pleasure of samsara, whoever strive to make the leisure and fortunate well, whoever are inclined to the path pleasing the conqueror Buddha, the fortunate one should listen with clear mind.

3. Without a complete intention definitely to leave cyclic existence, there’s no way to stop seeking pleasurable effects in the ocean of [pause], anyway I’ll read the English, then I’ll do the Tibetan. The oral [?] comes later.

Also creating, I did have, but I forgot to bring the…

Also, I tried to work on this, some of the things.

4. Also craving cyclic existence thoroughly binds the embodied, therefore in the beginning, any intention to leave cyclic existence should be solid.

5. Leisure and the fortunate are difficult to find and life has no duration. Through familiarity with these, emphasis on the appearance of this life and rebirth, if you think again and again about and their inevitable effects and the suffering of cyclic existence, emphasis on the appearance of future lives will be reversed.

6. If having meditated thus, you do not generate admiration even for an instant for the prosperity of cyclic existence, and even the attitude seeking liberation arises day and night, then the intention definitely to leave cyclic existence has been generated.

7. Also if this intention definitely to leave cyclic existence is not conjoined with the generation a complete aspiration to highest enlightenment, it does not become a cause of marvelous bliss of unsurpassed enlightenment. Thus the intelligent should generate the supreme altruistic aspiration to become enlightened.

8. Although these [?] things are carried by the continuum of four powerful currents, are tied with the tight bonds of actions developed to oppose have entered into the iron cage of apprehending self as inherently existent, are completely be clouded with the thick darkness of ignorance, are born into cyclic existence limitlessly, and in their births are tortured ceaselessly by the three sufferings. Thinking thus of the conditions of mothers who have come to such a state, generate the supreme altruistic intention to become enlightened.

9. If you have not the wisdom realizing the way the things are, even though you have developed the thought definitely to leave cyclic existence, as well as the altruistic intention, the root of cyclic existence cannot be cut.

10. Therefore work at the means of realizing dependent arising. Whoever, seeing the cause and effect of all phenomena of cyclic existence and nirvana as infallible… This is not complete…[Student explains where it continues] thoroughly destroys the modes of mis-appearance of these objects as inherently existent has entered on a path pleasing to Buddha.

11. As long as the two realizations’ appearance, the infallibility of dependent arising and realizations of emptiness, the non-assertion of inherent existence, seem to be separate, there is still no realizations of the thought of Shakyamuni Buddha.

12. When the two realizations exist simultaneously without declination [?], when only seeing dependent arising as infallible, definite knowledge destroys the moreover apparition [?] of the conception of inherent existence, then the analysis of view of emptiness is complete.

13. Further, the extreme of inherent existence is excluded by knowledge of the nature of appearance existing only as nominal designation, and the extreme of total non-existence is excluded by knowledge of nature of emptiness as the absence of inherent existence, and not the absence of nominal existence.

14. If within the emptiness, the way of the appearance of cause and effect is known, you will not be captivated by extreme views. When you have realized thus just as they are the essentials of the three principal aspects of the path, "resort to solitude." So then you go to a resort place! I’m joking. After you have realization of Three Principal Paths, then you go to resort, you go to beach resort, beach, Tahiti, Goa, all the holiday places, Bali, Thailand, anyway, I’m joking.

When you have realized thus just as they are the essentials of the three principal aspects of the path, resort to solitude and generate the power of effort, and accomplish quickly your final aim, my child.

[Rinpoche chants the Three Principal Paths in Tibetan]

Due to all the three time merits collected by me, three time merits collected by others, may Lama Tsongkhapa’s teaching, may it be complete, and may it be spread in all the directions, may it flourish forever in this world, by completely actualized within one’s own heart, also family members, in the hearts of all the students, supporters of this organization, and as well as those who give up their life to the organization, to service to other sentient beings, in all their hearts, as well as the hearts of everyone in this world.

[Rijnpoche chants in Tibetan]

[Long-life prayer for Rinpoche]

So most important thing in the life is, as I mentioned the first day, the importance to meditate on lam-rim, the opportunity to study the lam-rim teachings, where there’s lam-rim teachings given, to study, also for yourself to study at home the Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand, or elaborate, that’s the Lama Tsongkhapa lam-rim teaching, the elaborate, then also the other, great enlightened, other Tibetan lamas, the lam-rim teachings, The Essential Nectar, or the Happy Path [?] the red commentary, maybe not in English yet, so Happy Path, Geshe [?] Rinpoche , a translation, the other lam-rim teachings, so anyway, so at least the Pabongka Dechen Nyingbo’s Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand is one we can study.

That, then of course, if you can, Lama Tsongkhapa, lam-rim, you can study. So because it gives, because some things that if it’s not clear there, you find in other books clarity, so then it helps, because some things you get inspired from that lam-rim book, other lam-rim books. There’s also Bodhicaryavatara.

So, anyway, without talking many words, so the most important thing in life, no matter how much you’re busy, to study lam-rim, every day to read some pages, to read some pages, say, not just puja, reading fast, not like that. But this is to do meditation, to leave positive imprint on our mind, so do some pages, by thinking as much as you can the meaning, relating to one’s own life.

So then whichever, then, if something’s not clear you don’t understand, then write it down, make a note, one book, note, so whichever, anything that you don’t understand, then, there are many elder students, Sanghas, you can, those students teaching, so consult with them, or the, like that.

Then there’s also, something that you can’t resolve, then there’s Geshe-la Ngawang Dakpa there, and also in the future, Kyabje Choden Rinpoche, or great lamas come, so can check that time, so that.

However, so, first, you can’t meditate without lam-rim, one study, study, say, go through even two or three times, so that make familiar, first make familiar, then, make familiar the subject, then the guru devotion is one day, say, daily meditation guru devotion until you get realization of that. Then, that every day, you know, whatever time, even, even five minutes or ten minutes, 20 minutes, whatever, something like that, to have realization by following outline, so until one achieves that realization. So that.

Then the, you try to generate the effortful experience. So it means, you meditate, you go through, you see, meditate and then your mind gets transformed into that, you feel that through reasoning, quotations from Buddha, like that, you see, the stories, examples. Then your mind, after do the analytical meditation, then your mind gets transformed into that.

But, when you don’t do the analytical meditation, then you don’t feel that. But only when you do analytical meditation, you know, the reasoning, quotation, then the stories, then your mind, every time when you do that, then your mind enter that path, that experience or feeling.

So when you don’t meditate on impermanence, death, you don’t feel, but when you meditate, you feel. So that is effortful experience. So try to achieve that, try to, say, so that’s the, so having that, if you have that, the next thing, then you continue the meditation, you see, and then you have effortless experience, or the actual realization, so once you have that, then even you don’t, say, without doing other meditations, thinking all the reasons, say, quotations, all these examples, without going through elaboration, then you naturally feel the impermanence, death, mind naturally feels that, or, so like that, an example, similar to compassion, so first effortful experience. Once you have that, then you go through the effortless experience, the final, the attainment, you see.

Renunciation to this life, from perfect human rebirth up to karma, the renunciation, say, future lives, those, the sufferings of the deva, human beings, then general suffering of samsara, the six, and four, the three, and the short-comings of delusion, the evolution of samsara, totally all these things.

However, until one has realization, renunciation of samsara without effort, reasoning, like this, then, naturally one feels, one feels samsara only nature of suffering, could not find attraction even for one second.

The desire realm, form realm, formless realm, all three, like being in the center of the fire, so only in the nature of suffering, so unbearable, being in samsara, so continuously seeking liberation day and night.

Then, once you have that, this way makes easy to generate compassion to, very easy to see how other sentient beings are suffering, very easy to see that, very easy to feel that because you feel so unbearable your own samsara, so then able to generate strong compassion to others, and then that becomes bodhicitta.

And then a little meditation on emptiness, just to plant seed, and then sooner or later one is able to realize emptiness, and then, but it should be based on one guru yoga practice. So very short simplified one is, one can do Lama Tsongkhapa Guru Yoga, based on the daily meditation that I put together; daily meditation, Guru Shakyamuni Buddha is good, do on that basis, you know, you need one guru yoga practice, to meditate on lam-rim.

You can do that with Chenrezig, with Tara, there’s some particular buddha that you have, feel connection or inspiration, then you can do the guru yoga with that, can do also that. Some brief preliminary practice [?]

So, however, then to help, prostration, by reciting Thirty-five Buddhas for purification, to collect merit, and evening time, Vajrasattva, as I normally advise, so, whether it’s general for new people, somebody who wants to meditate, to begin practice, that’s, that’s everybody, so, say, some practice purification, collect merits, condition for lam-rim realizations.

Then, rest of the daily life, you live with the thought, as I talked also yesterday, didn’t get to spend much on the actual techniques of the process of [?] bodhicitta, but some idea, reason, say, to benefit for sentient beings, need to achieve enlightenment for sentient beings, something happened yesterday.

So, however, to live the rest of the day of life with this thought of benefiting others, with the thought to benefit for sentient beings as much as possible, whatever you’re doing, but do with the thought as much as possible, so [pause] so this way, how many activities in one day one do with thought of benefiting other sentient beings, the most precious, the most priceless, the most precious thought, bodhicitta, which fulfills all the wishes, all your wishes, all the happiness up to enlightenment, and that you can fulfill with this thought of benefiting others, bodhicitta, you’re able to fulfill the wishes for all sentient beings; you the one person able to fulfill the wishes of all sentient beings’ happiness, free them from all the sufferings and causes, oceans of suffering of each realm. You’re able to liberate them, numberless sentient beings in each realm, and bring them, cause them all the happiness up to enlightenment, liberation, enlightenment.

So this bodhicitta. So that which makes your life most fortunate [?] beneficial now, and good future, like sun shining, good future, and then [pause] by gradually proceeding Mahayana path, then achieve enlightenment, so complete, able to complete the whole path. So most beneficial to all sentient beings. So this, as much as possible to live the life with this, whatever activity you do with this thought.

Nagarjuna explained to king, writing to the king, I think , so because king is very busy, extremely busy life, so he can’t do many hours of meditation or things that, many other practices, meditation practice, can’t. So then, king explained, Nagarjuna advised, so do these three things, gave advice, do these three things: one is bodhicitta, to live the life with bodhicitta. The other one is rejoicing. You practice rejoicing, so, your own three time merits, and three time merits of all the past, present, future merits of sentient beings including bodhisattvas, then buddhas, yours, others, that becomes easiest way of collecting limitless skies of merits, you know, in each second, in such a short time.

So, some others like buddha, like Shakyamuni Buddha, put effort, collect merit for three countless great eons, sacrificed his life, whole family, born as king, sacrificed his life, family, everything, wealth, like that, sacrificed life for three countless great eons, practicing morality, charity, patience, perseverance for three countless great eons. Like that, or somebody, many lifetimes, they put effort, collect merit and actualized the path.

So now here, if you rejoice, so now, if somebody built huge stupa or huge temples, put a lot of effort, many years’ work, hard work, but here you rejoice, all that merit. If your level is higher than others, you get double merit. Even within that second, within that minute, second, you get double merit than those people who many years effort, worked so hard to build the temple or stupa, or whatever, or did their practice.

So if you rejoice, somebody put effort so many years, but you rejoice, within that minute, you collected similar amount of merit, or more, doubled, if your level is higher. So at least, if they’re higher, then half merit you get, how much they make. So much unbelievable what they collect, you get half, so that.

So, anyway, so rejoicing. So if you do practice rejoicing, everyday life, unbelievable merit, so therefore, everything become very easy, so all your wishes get fulfilled, that is the best business for success, you rejoice other people’s effort, you rejoice, and then you get all the success, so easy.

The other one, dedication, dedicate merit to achieve enlightenment for sentient beings, especially by sealing with emptiness, so this is Nagarjuna’s advice to the king who was so busy, no time to meditate or do many practices, so that.

So then, that’s it. So goodnight, thank you very much.
