Chapter 9 Part C: Meditating on Emptiness; King of Prayers

…the object of refutation is object of refutation, if you’re able to recognize, of course, no question. Then even you can’t recognize what it is, but still it’s useful to train the mind in the thought transformation that I think Rinpoche has taught here recently, the Seven-Point Thought Transformation, “Reflect the phenomena like a dream.” So that’s very powerful words, like atomic bomb, when you meditate on that, it brings your understanding, it brings your awareness or understanding in emptiness of, that phenomena are empty, that idea, maybe you don’t realize but at least the idea, so that gives the feeling, it’s very powerful for delusion, ignorance especially.

“Examine the unborn mind,” how’s it said? [Tibetan] “Analyze the nature of the unborn mind.” So the mind meditating on emptiness is also empty.

Then next words, how’s it said? Third one. Uh? What did you say? [Inaudible comment.] What? Yes, yes, thought transformation. Yes, only in thought transformation. No, the third word. The third verse. [Inaudible comment.]

So, “Even the remedy is free, is, I think, naturally free.” [Tibetan] So even the person who is meditating is empty from inherent existence, devoid of inherent existence. [Tibetan] “Place the mind [pause] in the all-base, the state of all-base, which is the essence of the path.” So when the mind when you put in the emptiness, so all the phenomena come from emptiness, place the mind in emptiness of all-base, the base of all, kun-shi, base of all, so maybe at that time become the essence of the path, I’m not sure, I don’t remember now which way the essence of the path.

Then, [Tibetan] “In the break times be the illusory person.” So in the break times, so session time meditate on emptiness, break time then you become the illusory person. So in other words, practicing mindfulness in that. So as I explained just before, so like that.

So anyway, so what I was going to say, from beginning, but it got elaborated. So when we meditate on emptiness, when we say “empty” if possible, not, when I [inaudible], so when I take off the hands that’s empty. When I take off my hand that’s empty. So anyway, when you meditate on emptiness shouldn’t be like that, that’s what I’m saying. Here, for me two hands, empty, so it shouldn’t be that. That’s what I am saying. That was actually what I meant to tell at the beginning, but got elaborated. So, when we do the blessing of offerings and, later with all the offerings taken away, that’s empty. So if that, if the emptiness become like that, then that’s not, that’s not the emptiness. That getting close to nihilism. That is getting close to nihilism. You are not saying, you’re not, if you believe the offerings do not exist then you are falling nihilism. While the offerings are there, that there is no offering. Then if you believe in that then you falling nihilism. When you meditate, you meditate like that they are taken away, empty space there, so absence of, it’s just simply you’re meditating the absence of substantial phenomena. It’s not the absence of truly existent offering. It’s not, you are not meditating on the absence, the emptiness, which is the absence of true existence. So are meditating on the ordinary emptiness, the absence of the substantial offering. So therefore, all the offerings, they are empty of ?rang zhin kyi _____ tong pa, the offerings are empty of, so Lama Tsongkhapa’s same, [inaudible] same Milarepa, those who become enlightened in other traditions. So become empty of inherent existence, ?rang zhin kyi _____ tong pa, became empty of existing by nature. The phenomena become empty of existing by nature. So at least you use the correct words, [Tibetan], the phenomena become empty of existing by nature or true existence. Phenomena become empty of, phenomena is empty of true existence, [Tibetan] true existence, empty by, existing by nature, or empty of independence. So the words, so you have the correct words, you just, [pause] at least to be able to say the correct words. And then whatever you can think about that, as much correct. So like that.

So now okay, so tonight it’s [Tibetan], so all phenomena….

[Ven. Rene: “All phenomena are empty by nature and thus become emptiness only.”]

So now, I made the description, I made the introduction before, starting from the I, everything is false. Then the whole phenomena here, I gave example, the hallucination covers merely labeled I, all the rest, merely labeled form, sound, smell, taste, everything here, the truly existent, hallucination cover everything, all the merely labeled phenomena. So like that, hell, enlightenment, samsara, nirvana, happiness, problems, so hallucination covered all these, the merely labeled ______. Okay? So now we meditate a little bit on this. [long pause]

/mindfulness of this. Hallucination that which covered all the phenomena, that which is merely labeled by mind. [long pause]

From the I down to the particles of the atoms, split seconds of consciousness, everything, [pause] completely covered by hallucination, inherently existent, truly existent appearance. [long pause]

Completely covered by hallucination, from the merely labeled I, everything, down to everything, all the rest. [long pause]

Then all the surrounding, all the outside phenomena around you. Then all the rest of the phenomena, hell, enlightenment, samsara, nirvana, happiness, problems, suffering, cause, cessation, path, everything completely covered by hallucination. The merely labeled phenomena are covered by hallucination. Something independent, not merely labeled by mind. [long pause]

So all these are, think of the meaning of hallucination. All these are hallucination, think of the meaning. All these hallucination, what does it mean? Nonexistent. All these are totally nonexistent right there. From where it is appearing, it’s totally nonexistent right there, from where it is appearing. [long pause]

Everything are totally nonexistent from where they are appearing, as real one. [pause]

So now, from the I down to the split seconds of consciousness, atoms, the real I appearing from there, completely totally nonexistent. [very long pause]

All the phenomena are empty by nature. [pause]

If one wants to make stronger, in emptiness there is no I, meditator. No meditation, and no action of meditating, no meditation. So can add that to make more precise or stronger.

Now, everything, your mind is awareness of this, nothing slightest exist from their own side. Totally emptiness only. Everything becomes, you see emptiness only.

Okay. Then your wisdom seeing emptiness, nondual, then manifest ?a/in PAM, variegated lotus, that transformed in variegated lotus petal, in the center ?DRUM. So now you read.

[Ven. Rene: Please ?read abbreviated sadhana. “At my heart on a moon disc is the resounding mantra circle, from this radiates”/]

I am going to recite this mantra for the long life Buddha of Compassion,, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and all the virtuous friends and all the rest of the holy beings, all their holy wishes to be succeed immediately.

And I am going to recite every single mantra for numberless hell beings, to free them from all the suffering and causes and bring them to enlightenment.

And then I am going to recite every single mantra for the numberless hungry ghosts, to free them from all the suffering and causes and bring them to enlightenment.

I am going to recite every single mantra for the numberless animals, to free them from all the suffering, unimaginable sufferings and causes and bring them to enlightenment.

I am going to recite every single mantra for the numberless human beings, to free them from all the suffering and causes and bring them to enlightenment.

I am going to recite every single mantra for the numberless suras and asuras, every one of them to be free them from all the unimaginable sufferings, their hallucinations, distractions, and including the cause, and bring them to enlightenment.

And I am going to recite every single mantra for the numberless intermediate stage beings, to free them from all the suffering and causes, all the terrifying great fears, all those sufferings and bring them to enlightenment by myself alone.

And going to recite every single mantra for the world peace, everyone, us all to generate loving kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta. And all the wars and disease, sicknesses, spirit harm, the famines, so forth, all natural disasters, so all the problems, all the undesirable things that’s happening now to be stopped and nobody experience again all these things, and may they all have perfect peace and happiness.

And all the projects in FPMT to succeed immediately, in the Centers and LMB, the one hundred thousand Medicine Buddha statues and one hundred thousand stupas, the school and all the social service, all those projects, and all other rest of the projects.

And then building holy objects. The large stupa at Bendigo, the replica of Gyangtse in Tibet. And then as well as the five-hundred-feet Maitreya Buddha statue to be completed, all those, as quickly as possible.

[Chanting of long mantra.] [?Chanting of tea offering; Praise to Mahakala]

To wake up everybody. [Rinpoche plays cymbals for a long time.] [?Palden Lhamo prayer]

Ven Rene: Long-life prayer, page 7.]

Rinpoche: King of Prayers.

Ven. Rene: So first long-life prayer, then King of Prayers.

Rinpoche: No, instead of long-life, King of Prayers.

Ven. Rene: All right.

This reciting the King of the Prayer, the extensive bodhisattva’s prayer that makes definitely to achieve, quickly to achieve enlightenment, as it is mentioned in the prayer, without doubt, and very, very powerful means of purifying the heavy negative karmas, as is mentioned there, you can see from the prayer quickly get purified even the very heavy negative karma of killed father, mother, arhat, harmed Buddha and disunity among Sangha. These five uninterrupted negative karmas, that one gets reborn in the lower realm immediately after death without interruption of another life. So those quickly get purified. And this contains bodhisattva pray, ten times or numberless hundred thousands of bodhisattvas’ prayer, very, very extensive bodhisattva prayer, so prayer to, so if we pray this then we are able to benefit so extensive like how a bodhisattva benefits for sentient beings able to do in similar way.

And then also means of collecting extensive merit and by reciting, generating faith in this, by hearing the prayer and then there mentioned, universe filled with jewels and with all the deva, human beings, all the enjoyment than if you offer to Buddha, reciting this prayer collects much more merit than that much offering.

And then if one does this prayer every day then this is one method that, when the death comes you get reborn in the Amitabha pure land, as well as, that’s one very important benefit.

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three-time merits collected by others, may the bodhicitta be generated within one’s own mind, in the mind of one’s own family members and in the mind of all the sentient beings without delay even a second. And that which is generated may it be increased. [jang chub sem chog....]

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three-time merit collected by others, may the Buddha of Compassion, His Holiness Dalai Lama, all the virtuous friends have stable life, all their holy wishes be succeed immediately.

And as well as Lama Ösel Rinpoche then to have a stable life and to complete, like Lama Tsongkhapa, to show aspect, having all the qualities like Lama Tsongkhapa and able to benefit, to offer skies of benefit to all the sentient beings and teaching of Buddha. So, to be able to complete the Dharma activity in this life without obstacle, then to complete the study in the monastery and.…

And due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three-time merit collected by others, then, numberless hell beings, hungry ghosts, animals, those who are unimaginably suffering right now and those people whose name is read, we heard at the, and those whose name is given to me, whom I promised to pray, who rely upon me, those who died, may all those and then immediately be liberated from the sufferings of the lower realms and reincarnate in pure land where they can become enlightened. Or may they receive perfect human body and achieve enlightenment as quick as possible by meeting perfectly qualified Mahayana guru and Mahayana teachings.

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three-time merits collected by others, by my hearing that somebody is sick cause that sentient being immediately get recovered including those people whose name is given, there who have cancer, so forth, so not only this life, in all the future lives to happen that way. So by my hearing a sentient being died cause that sentient being immediately to be born in pure land where that sentient being can become enlightened.

Due to the past, present, future merits collected by me, three-time merits collected by others, then the sentient beings who are born human...
