Chapter 8 Part C: Dedications; Chapter 9 Part A: Meditation on Emptiness

Tuesday October 30 Part C

…there is danger like this. Then this is a very good practice, it’s one of the practices you can do to stop those disasters that to do with the weather those disasters, with the elements. So it’s very effective. So of course if it is done by somebody who is living in pure morality, either lay or ordained person, then depends on the person how much qualified, , strong compassion, bodhicitta or emptiness or, however, the very basic thing, more pure in the morality, then it is very effective, those worldly devas they will listen to you. They will do, whatever order you give them they will listen to you. So it’s such a simple, one or two minutes practice can overcome that problem, tornado or whatever, all these disasters, destroys many billions of dollars, house, or whole town, completely destroy, the whole house, whole building, all the people, complete, everything goes in space, in the sky, and completely destroyed within hours. So such something like this very simple, that deals with those beings who are causing that or even involved in those violence.

So, I think when I was at Geshe Sopa’s place doing course, I think a few years ago, I think, maybe the first time, I think when I went , the first time or the second time when I was there. So there’s George Props, he was there and he left, he went to Florida, he lives at Florida. He was, when Yangsi Rinpoche was, Tseyang-la’s brother, Yangsi Rinpoche when he was at Kopan I think Lama asked George to become the sponsor, to be benefactor. So George sponsored for some years. I remember one time he sent a small airplane, not that you can control, not that one. Just something. I remember I went on top of the hill and then played with it. But I think went and then dropped. And anyway, so he went there then he sent telephone to me.

He didn’t tell Geshe-la but he told me that it’s going to be hurricane and to pray. He asked me to pray. But then I gave him a job. He told me to pray but I gave him a job, said you recite Ksitigarbha mantra. I think, there are two mantras, long one and short one, so I’m not sure, which one he recited I’m not sure. I don’t remember. One of the mantras. So I gave him job that you should recite these few malas. And then what else? I don’t remember right now. That is the main one. And then I did tea offering from my room at Geshe Sopa’s place. Of course, not so much power , just.... And then I don’t remember, tea or something, anyway, tried. So he chanted these mantra, the hurricane is coming, it was predicted by the weather people that it would be coming to Florida, where he is. So the hurricane came, so chanting, the wind came but then it went, when it comes to Florida, it came towards Florida, but then it went round. So then he was, he explained afterwards what happened. So he had total faith, it proved, that his practice worked.

So it’s just a very simple thing, for that one you can’t send armies, military, when the hurricane comes, tornado, you can’t send airplanes, you can’t send armies there to fight. So no matter how much scientific knowledge or technology there is, you can’t do anything. So here, very simple prayer due to Buddha, Dharma, Sangha’s power, just a very simple prayer, few mantras, just you chant some mantras, a few malas and then that can stop, that can overcome the problem where many billions and billions of dollars, development get destroyed, so many people become homeless, died. So power of Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, on the basis of refuge then you chant those mantras and this tea offerings, like that.

So anyway, if it’s kind of dangerous then you can use this practice. Just to let you know so that in case, not only for your, this is not only to help yourself, but to help the country, to help many people, to save their lives from danger, so like that. And the Ksitigarbha’s mantra is so, it’s very good, very powerful. And Most Secret Hayagriva that is another one, very powerful to overcome these things.

[Rinpoche chants tea offering prayer.] /

The eight worldly beings, de ge, and there’s separate, here it’s condensed, just the names there but, there’s a separate prayer. I think it’s, I asked my relative Pemba, who is the resident teacher in the Hong Kong center, asked him to translate. I think there should be translation of that. So when you, for weather and for construction or big projects to, so it’s good to use that prayer with this and then where their name comes then you recite, you tea offering to them by reciting that longer version. This groups has outer, inner, secret, eight groups, like that. So either the prayer, just something like this, a few pages, so you insert there, also it’s very, very, they’re not, these beings are worldly beings, they are not object of refuge, but this is, they are very powerful, so it’s, anyway, it’s useful, like that.

In Geshe Sopa’s place, when I was there for the teaching, so we are going to have picnic outside, to have food like that. So it’s raining. So I did, I think I did maybe, I think used two times, two different occasions of the course. It could be accident, not because I did my prayer, it could be accident, but the sun did come, I think maybe did two, two different courses. So at the end, to have food outside, so if it’s wet, can’t have, so for picnic sort of thing, something like that. Seems it helps. Seems, of course based on karma, and I mean could be also accident. [pause]

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by oneself, three time merits collected by others, may the bodhicitta be generated within one’s own mind, in the mind of all the sentient beings without delay of even a second, and that which is generated may it be increased. [jang chub sem chog....]

Then same thing, to realize emptiness. Dedicate the same way to realize emptiness in one’s mind and in the mind of all living beings. Those who have realized, to be developed, their wisdom to be developed. [tong yi da wa rinpoche....]

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by oneself, three time merits collected by others, may all the father, mother sentient beings have happiness. May all the father, mother sentient beings have happiness, may the three lower realms beings empty forever. May all the bodhisattvas’ prayers be succeed immediately. May I be able to cause all that, all those to happen by myself alone.

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by oneself, three times merit collected by others, from now on may I able to benefit like limitless skies towards sentient beings and the teaching of Buddha like Medicine Buddha and like Lama Tsongkhapa from now on and in all my future lifetimes. In every second by having the same quality within me as Medicine Buddha has, as Lama Tsongkhapa has. [long pause]

I give all the, I give away all the past, present, future merits and all the result happiness, temporary, ultimate, up to enlightenment, and all the merits collected today by taking Eight Mahayana Precepts, and so forth, all the merits collected in each session, break times, so many times skies of merit, and including my, one’s own body, form of wish-granting jewel fulfilling all the wishes of other sentient beings. Form of wish-granting jewels and all the belongings make charity to every hell being. [pause] Every hungry ghost. [pause] Every single animals. [pause] Every single human beings. [pause] Every single suras. [pause] Every single asuras.[pause] Every single intermediate stage beings.[pause]

And also same to all the arhats and higher bodhisattvas. Become cause to complete the path. And then offer also to the gurus and become cause for success, to spread Dharma, holy wishes to be succeed.

By, we collected so many times limitless skies of merit by this, by making charity one’s own body and then all the belongings and merits and all the happiness, the result happiness, so many times limitless skies of merits is collected, then due to this then whatever suffering that sentient beings have may it be ripened to me. Whatever happiness, merit I have, may it be ripened towards all other sentient beings. [pause]

Due to all the three-time merits collected by me, by others, from now on whatever action I do, whatever life I experience, eating, walking, sitting, sleeping, doing job, so forth and then whatever life happy, unhappy, healthy, unhealthy, gain, loss, poor, rich, receiving criticism, praise from others, even born in the hell realm, whatever happens to me, including that, may all my actions, experience of life, from now on to be the most beneficial to all sentient beings. [pause] That which causes all sentient beings to achieve enlightenment as quickest as possible by myself being enlightened.

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by me, three-time merits collected by Buddhas, bodhisattvas all other sentient beings, that which is like a dream, may the I, who is like a dream, appears but it’s empty, appears inherently existent but it’s empty, but it’s nonexistent, achieve Guru Medicine Buddha’s enlightenment, which is also like a dream, and lead all the sentient beings, who are also like a dream, to that enlightenment, which is like a dream, by myself alone, who is also like a dream. [pause]

I dedicate all the merits to be able to follow the holy extensive deeds of the bodhisattvas, Samantabhadra and Manjugosha, so forth. And as the three-time Buddhas, bodhisattvas admired the most, I dedicate my merits in that way. [Tibetan]

I dedicate all the merits, numberless beings who are suffering in the lower realm, may they immediately get liberated from all those and reincarnate in the pure land where they can become enlightened or may they receive a perfect human body and achieve enlightenment as quick as possible by meeting perfectly qualified Mahayana guru and Mahayana teachings and including all those people whose names given to me, whom I promised to pray for, who rely upon me and those who died. [pause]

Due to all the past, present, future merits collected by oneself, three-time merits collected by others, oneself, one’s own family members, and all the students, benefactors in this organization and especially l those who sacrifice their life, giving up, who give up their life to the organization to offer service to the sentient beings and the teaching of Buddha and those who rely upon me, whom I promised to pray, those who are doing service and may all of us, including us here, may everybody, everyone, may all of us have long life, to be healthy, all the wishes to be succeed immediately according to the holy Dharma; may we be able to actualize the steps of the path to enlightenment, the stainless teaching of Lama Tsongkhapa, unified of sutra and tantra, may we be able to actualize completely in this very lifetime without delay even a second.

May all the sanghas, may all the gurus have a stable life, all their holy wishes succeed immediately, may all the sanghas in this organization able to complete the scriptural understanding, the realizations of the path to enlightenment in this very lifetime by living in the pure vinaya and by receiving all the needs, all the protections.

And all the social service centers, meditation centers able to be most beneficial to all sentient beings, immediately able to pacify suffering of the body and mind of the sentient beings, and spread the complete teaching of Lama Tsongkhapa in the mind of the sentient beings by receiving all the needs.

And all, including LMB then all the Dharma projects here, the one hundred thousand Medicine Buddha statue temple, place for the Sangha and as well as the one hundred thousand stupas to liberate sentient beings and bring them to enlightenment every day. So many sentient beings in silence, without words, bringing them to enlightenment every day. Free them from samsara and bring them to enlightenment. For hundreds of years or thousands of years, _____ ______ _____ to liberate, bring sentient beings to enlightenment every day. And then all the other social service projects here, school, so forth, and all the rest of the centers, each individual center, all the projects to be succeed immediately. And then all the other projects in this organization, building monasteries, nunnery or holy objects and all, and including Maitreya Buddha, five-hundred feet Maitreya project succeed immediately, to be able to be completed as quick as possible by receiving all the needs, all the fundings and then without any obstacles. Then, may all these projects, Maitreya Project and all the centers, all other projects cause sentient beings to achieve enlightenment as quickest as possible, by causing them to actualize bodhicitta, loving kindness, compassion, bodhicitta. And may the Lama Tsongkhapa teaching be spread and be able to flourish forever and may I be able to cause this to happen by myself. [Tibetan]

Wednesday October 31 Part A
Final Medicine Buddha Session

So I am going to make some noise here.

So, we are extremely fortunate that at least we can recite the correct words of emptiness, at least. We are extremely fortunately. At least, the words are correct. So, yes, based on of course, our kind, compassionate Guru Shakyamuni Buddha, of course, then Nagarjuna so forth then, Lama Tsongkhapa’s clarification on emptiness. So even we don’t know how to meditate, but at least due to Lama Tsongkhapa’s kindness that you have correct words, at least the words are correct. Even one doesn’t know what it means, what’s he’s talking about. So words, so that’s very important. First the words to be correct, very important. So that depending on the correct words then you can understand, then it gives chance to understand the correct meaning, like that. From the correct words, explanation, then gives opportunity to have correct understanding of emptiness, the Prasangika’s view, Madhyamika school, from the four schools of Buddhist philosopher, the Madhyamika school, and then from those two Svatantrika and Prasangika, Prasangika school view. The only one, which is the emptiness.

So one can’t meditate on emptiness and then doesn’t have clear idea or can’t meditate on emptiness, there is no clear idea or can’t meditate on emptiness, so there are two things, there is no clear idea even, of course one has idea but can’t concentrate on that. You can’t really get into that. Can’t, first of all not clear what it’s empty of, and what is the emptiness, and then even one has some idea but can’t really concentrate, like that. So anyway, so at least we have correct words, explanation, correct words. So if even the words are not correct then you have nothing to hold on, you have no basis to really to do correct meditation. So therefore I think Lama Tsongkhapa’s the particular explanation is, so therefore, so clear and Lama Tsongkhapa’s, so therefore it’s the kindness of Lama Tsongkhapa, special kindness of Lama Tsongkhapa, of course not only in this case but also in many other aspects of sutra and tantra, other subtle points important points. Like that.

So I think even the words, I think it’s very, correct words, I think it’s so lucky, so fortunate. Even you don’t know what you are saying but at least have the correct words. So try to get idea of that, that which leads to realization of the Middle Way, Prasangika school view of emptiness and then that leads unification of dependent arising and emptiness. [pause]

So there are so many different ways of explaining or the presentation. So many different, so of course, somebody who has a lot of merit from the past and did meditation on emptiness in the past, of course due to great devotion, guru devotion and that gives, one receives incredible blessing then of course it works out, the imprint, due to the past, background, past imprint, a lot of merit, all that and then purification, because of strong devotion, there’s strong purification, so then it clicks, by reading the teachings or by, it works, it clicks. It goes in the right, it works. One day the person’s meditation works. Yeah, it can click the mind.

So my root guru, Trijang Rinpoche used to say that, he used to say like this, bodhicitta, guru devotion and bodhicitta is more difficult. The emptiness is a question of, it’s like a thread that got messed, knotted. So you just need to recognize the point, the vital point that which can release everything. The point, there is a point there which can release everything. So it’s a question of that, recognizing that point. His Holiness used to say like that. It’s a question of recognizing that point. Once you can hit that point then you can release so easy. So like that. So it’s a question of recognizing the object to be refuted. [pause]

What is to be, the object of refutation or object to be refuted, which is called in Tibetan gak cha. So that which, the inherently existent I or the inherently existent phenomena, the truly existent phenomena, so which doesn’t, which is not there or which doesn’t exist. So, and to recognize that this is the refuting object, this is the object to be refuted, to recognize. [pause] The meaning, what it means, true existence or existing by nature, the meaning of that, recognize it is, in our view twenty-four hours, from birth to the death, from beginningless rebirth until the dualistic, until the subtle negative imprint left by delusion, until it is removed, until that is totally, completely removed, so the cessation of that is then enlightenment, full enlightenment, the great liberation, nonabiding sorrowless state.

So even until that happens, the subtle negative imprint left by the concept of true existence, that delusion which projects the dualistic view, inherently existent appearance, which constantly decorate, that negative imprint which constantly decorate, project the truly existent appearance, on the, whenever there is, whenever things are merely labeled, right after the second mere imputation, right after the second mere imputation, one’s own thought merely imputed then right after that second that negative imprint project the inherently existent appearance. So like that. Twenty-four hours we have that hallucination, covered all the phenomena, merely labeled I, merely labeled mind, merely labeled body, aggregates, the merely labeled senses, merely labeled form, sound, smell, taste, tangible objects, all that. Merely labeled hell, merely labeled enlightenment, merely labeled happiness, merely labeled problems; merely labeled samsara; merely labeled liberation, all that. So merely labeled virtue; merely labeled nonvirtue, so like that. So then merely labeled bodhicitta; merely labeled, so forth, as well as the whole entire suffering and delusions, merely labeled delusions; merely labeled ignorance; merely labeled anger; merely labeled attachment, all that. So all the delusions and all the sufferings, merely labeled all the realizations.

So every time, right after the second, right after the mere imputation [snaps fingers] then the negative imprint project the inherent, truly existent appearance. So the whole phenomena is covered with inherently existent appearance, hallucination. So, [pause] covered, everything is covered , everything that which exist is what is merely labeled by mind, because, depending to the, relating to the valid base, so then the valid, same, the valid base is also merely imputed, it’s a mere imputation on another base, relating to another base, and so forth like that. So goes on and on like that, goes on. So all the phenomena are like that.

So all the phenomena the way they exist is in mere name, existing merely, existing being merely imputed. [pause]

So everything that which exist, what is being merely imputed by the mind and the, but why they don’t appear to, if that’s the way how they exist then why they don’t appear to us, to me, all the time that they are merely imputed by the mind. So that is blocked, because everything is covered by this projection, decoration, this inherently existent appearance. [pause] So anyway, inherently existent appearance on the merely labeled I; inherently existent appearance on the merely labeled aggregates; inherently existent appearance on the merely mind, merely labeled body; inherently existent appearance on merely labeled form, merely labeled compounding aggregates; merely labeled feeling; inherently existent appearance on the merely labeled consciousness; and the aggregates of, truly existent appearance on the merely labeled aggregates of cognition. So/
