Pujas for Lung

Pujas for Lung

A student had severe lung for many years. He had read Balanced Mind, Balanced Body, a book about lung by Amy Cayton. His lung had slowly improved in recent months and he could do a little practice every morning and evening. He did refuge, bodhicitta, the seven-line prayer to Guru Rinpoche and some shamatha without an object. The student wrote to Rinpoche asking for advice.

My very dear one,
Thank you for your kind letters. I am very sorry for the many eons it took to reply. Regarding your lung, I checked and this is what came out most beneficial to do:

  • Chag sum puja: eight times
  • Lu zong puja: eight times
  • Ga gön: twice

Are there any Tibetan lamas near you who could do these pujas or are you able to travel anywhere to meet a lama who could do the pujas? If you let me know who they are, then I can check if it comes out beneficial for them to do the pujas.

Regarding the meditation you are doing, it is best not to do shamatha without an object. This is not so good to do, it is just spacing out. It is best to do it properly, if you are doing this kind of meditation.

So, please try these things and see how you are after you have done these pujas. Most importantly, try to live your life with bodhicitta, the thought of benefiting others night and day, in whatever you are doing.

With much love and prayers...
